Re: Newsletter

Marin E. Clarkberg

Betsy, happy new year to you.

The last newsletter, issued in mid-December, covered January as well. So the next regular newsletter will be for February. Let's shoot for a Jan 27 deadline. I will take what comes, generally speaking, and have no objection to three articles on Earthcare topics.

Thank you!

Hi Marin, I hear you are very busy. Hope you are doing OK.

Earthcare was thinking of making the newsletter more a platform for articles on the Environment for our Quaker Community. Would that work for you? When is the deadline for January? And would it be possible to put maybe 3 articles in an “Earthcare issue” say in February?

Do you have the bandwidth for us to expand a bit?

Much best wishes, Betsy

Friends,

Join us for an online New Year’s Eve Show and Tell tomorrow December 31 at 4:00 pm.  The Zoom link is below.

This will be very informal, children are invited.  Show us or tell us about something from the past year - a picture you have drawn, hold up a quilt you have been working on, show us your favorite mask, read a poem you have written or one that inspired you or sing us a song. Show us your guinea pigs, your cat, your dog or tell us about your bees, your garden or your houseplants. Show us a few photos if you went on a trip. Tell us about your hobby or a project from school or work.  Share a favorite memory from the past year, or a hope for the new year.  Share a favorite memory of a loved one who passed away. Or just join us to be social without feeling obligated to share .

We’ll plan to be on Zoom for about an hour, but we can extend that if we have more people wanting to share.

Barbara Chase will facilitate.

Amala Lane

Dear all,

There is a First Day Hike hosted by Taughannock State Park that starts at 10 a.m. at the foot of the falls entrance.  Details are in this link:

I am not sure I am going to go this year after all. I'm feeling more reflective and want to go on a private, silent meditative walk.  But I encourage others if they enjoy the majestic falls, to please go. You can go at any time and you can coordinate with one another.

Much love and joy,

Amala

Join us for hybrid Meeting for Worship Sunday Dec 26

Barbara Chase

Friends,

Join us for hybrid Meeting for Worship at 10:30am on Sunday Dec.26.  You can join us in-person at the Third Street Meetinghouse or on-line via Zoom. The link is below.

A few friends have raised concerns about in-person worship in the time of increased COVID cases locally. IMM COVID guidelines already require masks and social distance distancing. We closely monitor guidance from the Tompkins County Health Department. As of this time (2:00pm on Dec. 24 ) they have not advised Houses of Worship to close. Therefore we will continue to offer hybrid Meeting for Worship so those who prefer to join us in-person may do so, and those who prefer to participate online may join us on Zoom.  If the Health Department guidelines change we will adjust our plans accordingly.

Wishing all love, joy, and health,

Barbara

Virtual Caroling - Friday

Melissa Travis Dunham

Friends,

As you saw from Barbara Chase's email yesterday, a few holiday events are being organized by some Friends. I offered to facilitate a casual caroling Zoom event on Christmas Eve, starting at 4:30. This will be informal; just a chance for us to spend time together and sing some favorite Christmas carols.

As you probably have already experienced, singing over Zoom is difficult. To make this work, we'll ask 1 person to be unmuted and to lead the song, while the rest of us keep our microphones muted and sing along at home.

Do you have a favorite Christmas Carol you want to sing? We're taking requests! Please send me an email with the name of the carol so Margaret McCasland and I have time to track down the lyrics before Friday.

The Zoom details for this event are below. I look forward to seeing you!

QVS Applications are Open!

This is a message from Quaker Voluntary Services to Young Adult Friends.

Gina

Hello Ithaca Friends Meeting !

I am Christina Dunbar, an alum of and recruiter for Quaker Voluntary Service (QVS). I am reaching out to Friends meetings because QVS would be a great opportunity for young adult friends or relatives of Friends in transition to practice Quaker values and deepen their spirituality. Quaker Voluntary Service (QVS) applications are open for the 2022-2023 Fellowship year, and I would be very grateful if you could share the below blurb with our Friends community!

"Grounded in the Quaker faith tradition and open to people of all backgrounds, QVS is a year-long Fellowship program in which young adults (age 21-30) build intentional community, work full time at social service and social change agencies, and explore themes of spiritual and personal growth with local Quakers.

QVS addresses racial, economic, and gender justice by helping partner organizations increase capacity to fulfill their missions and provide young adults with invaluable experience and training that equips them for a lifetime of social change work. QVS currently has houses in Atlanta, Boston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and Portland OR.

Applications for the upcoming 2022-2023 year (beginning in late August 2022) are due February 28, 2022."

Read more and apply: Check out QVS’ website where you’ll find a Fellow job description, Fellow testimonials, current service partners, and the application portal.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at christinad@...
