Thanksgiving Worship at the Hector Meetinghouse
clerk@ithacamonthlymeeting.org
There will be a Meeting for Worship on Thanksgiving Day at the Hector Meetinghouse at 10:30am. Friends are welcome to attend. For those that have not attended worship in the cooler months at Hector in the past, you are advised to dress warmly, as the crackle of the woodstove sometimes does more to warm our hearts than the meetingroom. ![]() Gina

Mentors Needed for Young Adult Friends!
clerk@ithacamonthlymeeting.org
26 Young Adult Friends have signed up to be mentored through NYYM's mentoring program and they are actively searching for mentors to walk alongside them over the next eight months. There is no prescribed formula for a good mentor, and they are seeking people of diverse experiences, perspectives, backgrounds, and personalities. Indeed, a mentor that is perfect for one person may not be what another person needs. Somebody might just need YOU or somebody that you know. Please help us spread the word!!! They do not expect people to come with experience or knowledge about being a good mentor and they will provide training and continuous support throughout the entire program. The primary goal is to be able to lovingly and faithfully match kindred spirits for a mutually-enriching experience. And it is a blessing to do so. Access the full information packet at https://bit.ly/nyymmentoring2021 and sign up at https://bit.ly/nyymmentoringinterest2021. The deadline to sign up is November 30! Let Marissa know if you have any questions!! Marissa Badgley, MSW Interim Young Adult Director New York Yearly Meeting Pronouns: she, her, hers (c) 914-388-2759 (e) yafs@...

Canceling Sunday Meeting for Worship at the Hector Meetinghouse
Elizabeth Schneider
Dear Friends,
Last year, Tom Brown and Dreia looked at the temperature forecast for Sunday mornings to decide if the temperature would be above the comfort threshold that they were working with in autumn. Dreia let me know that the temperature forecast looks to be below that threshold for this coming Sunday. So we will not have a Meeting for Worship at the Hector Meetinghouse this Sunday (Nov 14). Hopefully, next Sunday (Nov 21) will be a bit warmer and will allow us to gather. Elizabeth Schneider

Apologies for the double post, but I had intended to add to this a lovely tribute shared with me by IMM attender Stephen Paisley titled "The Ministry of the Stove." I hope it warms your heart (and your body) as it did mine: Gina

Baking help request for Friday
Friends, Bronwyn and I are organizing the reception following Tom's Brown's burial on Friday. Light refreshments will be served, including cookies and cherry pie (a favorite of Tom's). If anyone is interested in baking cookies or a cherry pie, please let Bronwyn or I know. We need to know of any offers of baking or other reception help by the end of Wednesday, or Thursday morning at the latest, so we can finalize plans. You can let either, or both, of us know: Melissa at mtravisdunham@... Bronwyn at bjqmohlke@... One of us, or Gina, will send a follow-up email with general details about the reception. Thank you very much. Melissa

Neighborhood Outreach Committee update
Nancy Riffer
As you may know, the Northside United listserv has been having a lengthy discussion of how to respond to gunshots in the neighborhood. They are setting up a meeting for the northside community to consider how they want to proceed. Karen Friedeborn has been supporting them in finding a place to meet -- in person or online. If you would like to join the listserv send an email to lindaholzbaur@... In a recent email, Linda Holzbaur, a long time board member, sent the following message of appreciation of the support of IMM to the Northside United listserv.

How to sign up for the Witness and/or Community lists
Nancy Riffer
All Friends receiving this message are on the Announcements listserv. You'll notice that on your list of emails, this message starts with [IMMRSF Announcements]. Anyone who signed up is subscribed to this list. The other two lists are subgroups of this Meeting-wide list and must be specifically requested. There is some confusion about how to get onto the other two lists. Currently, 45 people are signed up for the Community list (used for news, requests, social activities among Friends). And 24 people are signed up for the Witness list (used for activities put on by groups outside the Meeting; information supporting particular actions or points of view; or opportunities to influence political leaders that have to do with Friends' traditional testimonies (the SPICES) or other social and witness concerns of Friends). If you are already on the Witness list, you received an email with the heading: [IMMRSF witness] Climate and Earthcare News and Notes from Margaret McCasland at 11:11 am on Nov. 1st. If you are on the Community list, you received an email with the heading: "[IMMRSF community] Request'' from aleta weaver on August 18 at 5:49. This is a very old message because this list isn't used very often. After you determine whether you are on these lists, if you find you aren't on the ones you want, you can request being added by sending an email to Melissa Travis Dunham: mtravisdunham@.... Alternatively you can use the link below to sign up directly. If you are unclear whether you are signed up or not, you can submit a request to be signed up and if you are not in the group, you will be added. Click on the list you want to join and enter the information. To send a message out on one of these lists, put "witness@immrsf.groups.io" or "community@immrsf.groups.io" in the email where it asks for "recipients." You have to be a member of the group to post. I hope this information enables everyone to join the lists they want to be on. Nancy Riffer Communications Committee

Tom Brown
clerk@ithacamonthlymeeting.org
Dear Friends, It is with a heavy heart that I share with you all the news of Tom Brown's passing. He passed away peacefully in his sleep early yesterday morning. Judith is being supported and well cared-for by Tom's children, and the rest of Tom's family members and Judith's children will be arriving this week. Cards and/or notes of concern that are sent to the family home at 5 Rockwell Rd., Newfield, NY 14867 will get to both Judith and to Tom's children - Lenora, Audrey, and Maury. At this time, Judith asks that Friends hold off on emails and phone calls, so as not to overwhelm the family. A burial for Tom has been scheduled for 1pm this Friday, November 5 at Green Springs Natural Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. Conditions at Green Springs call for boots or other sturdy footwear, as the grass is high and the ground is muddy. There will be an ATV available to transport those that are unable to walk to the burial plot. A reception following the burial is currently being planned, but details are not yet available. Friends are welcome to be in touch if they have any questions or concerns. Gina
